GARNET SQUARE

CUAMBA MINE

The garnet mine is located within the well known garnet deposit occurrence in the Cuamba-Niassa area.

The deposit is of the alluvial type, with a further belt of garnetiferous biotite schist. External geologists carried out physical inspections of the mining area that extends over 3310 ha, covering all six original concessions. It was noted that the Pre-Cambrian mica schists, quartzites and garnet bearing biotite gneisses have been subjected to high grade metamorphism.
